April Topic: CHRIST'S RESURRECTION

This is what sets Christianity apart from all other religions. You cannot build up a lasting meaningful relationship with someone who is dead!

That is why Christianity is NOT a religion.

We have a unique relationship with God's One & Only Son who is Alive today and for evermore.

That is a meaningful relationship!

Come; let's remind ourselves about what happened...

John 20:16

MARY!

Our names are precious aren't they?

When I started working I called all the customers Sir or Madam, which was very polite but not very friendly. I soon realised that they preferred Mr or Mrs and their surname. Today in New Zealand society, we preferred to be called by our Christian or first name.

I've always felt it is sad that when most commentators talk of sportsmen or women or of politicians, they nearly always refer to them by their surname. Why? Because there is no intimacy. God is intimate and God knows you intimately. He knows us all intimately and calls us all by our fore names.

But just imagine the scene this morning. You've had the worst weekend of your life. Your best friend, who you considered a king in every possible way, has been treated abominably and to top it all crucified and killed. Even in death He was not treated as a king even though the sign above His head told everyone He was King of the Jews. His body had been taken down from the cross and put in a borrowed tomb and sealed without the normal burial preparations having been made.

You and two of your friends have got up before dawn today so that you can at least give the body "a proper burial". You come to the tomb and some bright spark tells you He's gone!

The tomb is empty - can't they even respect the dead? You've gone back to the disciples and they come and look, but they're no good, they just go back home depressed. One of them seemed to have a glint of some sort of understanding in his eye, but still went back home.

You are left alone with your anger, frustration and grief. Through the mist of your grief and bewilderment you can't see angels. You can only see the shape of a Gardener. "Oh, if you would only stop playing hurtful games and show me where you have put Him! (Interesting - put Him - not placed His body!) - I will get Him." It would have been more than a body to Mary. In her deep grief it would have been "Him".

Oh the grace of Jesus. Oh the love of God. Not "look at Me (woman!)" Not "stop crying and let Me show you something!"

Just one word "Mary!"

The intimacy of agape love shines through the thickest mist and there is but one response "Rabboni!"

Yes, He is all of the King she thought - all of the Messiah she trusted - and all the God she knew!

What is your response?
