MY NAME IS TO BE FEARED AMONG THE NATIONS
Here we have the heart of God again.
That His Name might be "feared" among the nations. Is this God's ego trip? No, far from it! This is a holy fear in response to an Awesome God. Like so many words today "Awesome" has been devalued and yet when used in relation to God we find its full meaning.
Our God is an Awesome God. What makes Him awesome? The fact that He is the world's Creator? The fact that in His hand is your and my "breath of life"? The fact that one day He will punish evil and destroy it once and for all? The fact that He will deal with sin and He doesn't overlook it? The fact that one day this earth will be destroyed by fire and a New Heaven and a New Earth created by Him?
Yes - all these things show us that He is awesome God. He is Sovereign, and just as Job found out, struggle as I may with life's injustices - before the Awesome God I am speechless and wish to cover myself in dust and ashes. But I believe there is another side to His Awesomeness.
Oh the Love that drew Salvation's plan.
Oh the Grace that brought it down to man.
Oh the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary.
Mercy there was great and grace was free.
Pardon there was multiplied to me,
There my burdened soul found liberty
At Calvary.
Bethlehem's manger; His life of love, healing and forgiveness, and Calvary's Cross all prove He is an Awesome God. No man, however loving and great; no human mind, however well educated and trained; no superstar would or could have conceived The Plan of Salvation. It took an Awesome God.
Yes, we fear Him because His love, grace, longsuffering, and faithfulness are beyond description and human comprehension. He is truly awesome - to be feared out of love and respect.
That's why we must go and make His Name feared among the nations!
