March Topic: THE CENTRALITY OF THE CROSS |
This month we will look at the death of Jesus Christ our Lord from various angles and see how it is totally relevant to all we are called to be and do. |
Genesis 3:3
YOU MUST NOT TOUCH IT OR YOU WILL DIE
God makes very few demands on us.
He made very few on Adam. Only one really. Don't touch the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
He basked in his freedom and was totally blessed. What then could he gain from touching and eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Not goodness - he already had all of that - the only thing he could possibly gain was evil. Evil.
Yes, he was not to gain good - he was to gain evil. That was his only option - to gain the knowledge of evil - AND HE CHOSE EVIL.
Have you noticed how it is still true today? As Christians, if we spend time reading and meditating on God's Word and those things listed for us in Philippians 4 v 8 we will get only good things, and yet we choose "MORE" than that.
What then are we choosing? We are choosing to gain the knowledge of evil.
I'm sorry if that may sound stark but isn't it true? If you shy away from Philippians 4:8, you aren't left with much else except that which is of a "negative" or evil nature. Touch those things and you will die!
Is it really any wonder that so many Christians live in bondage, failure, weakness, sickness and defeat when they allow their minds to dwell on things not listed in Philippians 4:8? Yes, if you haven't turned to it yet it might be worth a look now!
They are beginning to "die". Their Christian walk is certainly beginning to die. Why? Because if you turn away from the Bible and what is good - you have no alternative but to increase your knowledge of evil.
As Paul says in Romans 16:19 - "Be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil." And in Romans 12:9 "hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
Here in Genesis 3 we see the seed of the Plan. Death would come - but death would be conquered.
How? By you, by me - by love, by purity, by goodness, by holiness.
We call their names - Jesus.
Since He has died to give us life, let us be committed to stay away from any and all kinds of evil.
