June Topic: FAITH (for without faith it is impossible to please God)

This month let's have a look at how we can please God and at the same time experience the dynamic power of God which will make our Christianity very exciting and totally contagious!

Judges 4:6

GO TAKE WITH YOU 10,000 MEN ... AND LEAD ... TO MT TABOR

Not many of us men like being told what to do by a woman, do we?

I suppose in our Western culture, through that thing called 'women's lib' we are seeing it, if not experiencing it, more and more. But a lot of men still find it hard and if we go outside of the Western culture, we find it an even bigger anathema.

In Israel at the time women were considered little more than chattels, so to have Deborah a judge was a difficult enough 'pill to swallow' without her 'getting spiritual'.

How would you like it, if a lady came up to you and said "The Lord, the God of Israel commands you, "Go..." "Okay lady, so you enjoy being the judge, that's fine. We need a judge; I don't see any men clambering for the job, so go for it. But battles lady are for men. Men like me. Not women. And just because you want to go and pick a fight with Sisera, that's your affair not mine. I'm not toddling off with 10,000 men to pick a fight with Sisera, just so you can gain even more kudos. You strike me as having enough ego already. I'll go, if you go! I'm right behind you really! If you don't go, I'm certainly not risking my neck for your glory."

Was that how it was? Be encouraged - there appears to be a divine principle - He or she who humbles themself shall be exalted; he or she who exalts themself shall be humbled.

How humble are you? Yes, we do need to "test" every "word" that comes to us from others. But, when you "do the test" what is your motive? To find God's will or to justify non-compliance? Maybe you are able to take advice, counsel and "words" from other women, but what about your wife? What about your daughter? What about your supervisor? Or employer? What about your student? What about your Pastor or Counsellor? What about that poor "humble" person in the Church?

Pride, arrogance and prejudice can all get in the way of serving the Lord.

Are you still ready to serve the Lord, even if He sends someone else (who may even be insignificant to you) with the instructions?

Remember Naaman? He very nearly remained a leper because of the same thing.
