Hebrews 12:1
LET US RUN WITH PERSEVERANCE THE RACE MARKED OUT FOR US
First, 'get in' the race marked out for you!
Why is it so many Christians don't know for sure that they are doing what God wants them to do? They get caught up in 'life' and things just happen.
Hey, if that is you, Stop! God doesn't want us to get in a 'rut' but in a 'race' - its vibrant, vigorous and victorious.
Why do I labour the point about doing what God wants you to do? Because if you don't know or are not doing it - you'll not be able to persevere! When trouble comes, - as it certainly will - you need to know you are doing God's will. That is the secure foundation, which will weather any storm - but if you don't know for sure - what will be your foundation?
Secondly, His purpose and plan is not just an existence - it is a race. It has a goal - a 'tape'. It requires dedication and hard work. It requires those training times we can all do without! But they are fundamental to success. Yes, we are to run.
Sometimes the Bible says sit, sometimes walk, sometimes stand - here it is run. Why run? Time is short; there are so many distractions that if you 'go slower' you will miss the target. If you run you are single focused. You have an air of determination. The end is 'in sight' by faith and you are 'on your way'. The temporary blends into the background, as the end becomes more distinct.
Yes, we also run with perseverance. This is no 100-metre dash. This is the marathon runner's race. He sets out with one purpose only - to finish. The first few kilometres are easy but his eyes are not on the first few. He controls his pace not for a short 'flash in the pan' success but for the final victory. The pain increases; the end seems to disappear further into the distance - but he will carry on and get there. No matter the obstacles, the strains, and the exhaustion. He will arrive, for the end and the prize are worth it.
Come, hold His hand and run the race He has marked for you, no matter what the cost.
