LET US THROW OFF EVERYTHING THAT HINDERS
Throw it off!
I remember being on a youth camp once. We used to rent a huge field each summer, and put up a marquee, for meetings and catering and canvas tents for sleeping.
My friend was the "Padre". On this particular day, he walked into the marquee filled with people, with a rope over his shoulder and behind him he was dragging a black plastic sack full of rubbish. Everyone cracked up at the pitiful sight. But he had made his point!
How much rubbish do you drag behind you? The Hebrew writer says, "Let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." My friend, Jeff, could only stagger into the marquee - there was no way he was going to run anywhere! Psalm 1 gives a picture of backsliding - it's a slowing up. Happy is the one who does not walk ... nor sit ... nor stand. It's a gradual stop.
That's how the enemy works. He knows he can't win a full frontal attack - so he deviously creates diversions and 'add ons' that eventually stop the work and our Christian walk.
How 'bogged down' are you? Go on - take out a clean piece of paper and be honest - write down what you do and put a cross beside all those things that are "hindering" you. They get in the way of your time with God. They get in the way of reaching your neighbours, family and friends with the Gospel (building relationships with them). Those things that divert you from what you really believe God wants you to do. They get in the way of your marriage, your family, or your ministry.
God only wants you whole - He wants you released to achieve your full potential in Him. He is not a stingy God - He is an extravagant God. Jesus said "If the Son shall set you free, you shall be free indeed."
God is not interested in your rut. He is bigger than that!
Go on, be brave - commit yourself to throwing off all that hinders you. Don't argue. Don't put it off. Now is the time to do it. God has appointed this moment. Don't lose it!
