February Topic: WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING |
This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |
2 Kings 7:9
THIS IS A DAY OF GOOD NEWS AND WE ARE KEEPING IT TO OURSELVES
People who win one million dollars usually shun publicity.
Why? Because they don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry coming to them hoping to share in their winnings. The root is selfishness; they want to keep it to themselves.
These lepers were as good as dead. Their future bleak in the extreme, outcasts and unloved. And yet when they "stumbled" upon food and goods in abundance their consciences pricked them sufficiently and they managed to crawl out of their selfishness and bring life and hope to others in despair.
Would you say going to Hell was a bleak future? Would you say knowing how to avoid it was good news? Would you say keeping that good news to yourself is selfish? Then how selfish are you?
There are so many of us as Christians, who have either forgotten what it is like to be "lost and destined for Hell", or now we are "saved", couldn't care less about the "unsaved".
Can I challenge you today? Today is a day of good news. One day you won't be here "tomorrow", because the Lord will have seen fit to take you "home". One day this world will be "wound up" and the saved and unsaved issue sealed in fire.
How are you going to spend today? Sharing the good news or keeping it to yourself.
Jesus said, "I must work whilst it is day, for the day is coming when no man shall work."
Have you lost the "wonder" of your salvation? Have you forgotten what it was like before you were saved? Come back to the cross again and look at it. See there a man dying. That was your destiny and mine. That is the destiny of the unsaved.
But as you and I look, there is One "the man of sorrows" - He is dying in our "place".
He is dying in their place too.
Isn't it only "fair" we get out there and give them the "good news" instead of keeping it all to ourselves?
