HOW CAN THEY BELIEVE IN THE ONE IN WHOM THEY HAVE NOT HEARD?
Good question!
Paul is always very logical in his arguments - he had good training. Let me repeat the question - How can (your family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues, and sports associates) believe in the One in whom they have not heard?
So often we want to leave it to someone else. Pray that they get surrounded by Christians - maybe God has already done that - He put you there in their sphere of influence!
It is quite wrong for us today, in most parts of the world, to think that the current generation has 'heard' about your Saviour and mine. The probability is that they have never heard of the Christian God, the Creator God, the God of Israel, the God of Abraham and Isaac.
Even if they have, the reality is more likely that they have an 'imperfect' or totally 'inaccurate' concept of who He is - through ignorance, misrepresentation from the media, the church or 'so-called' Christian 'friends' or family.
So, our job is to reach them where they are at and accurately tell and introduce them to the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as our children will never know the 10 Commandments; the great stories of the Old Testament; the Real meaning of Christmas and Easter unless we tell them - neither will the rest of this generation and the next.
Let me finish by challenging you with some 'poetry' I was sent recently.
1) My friend, I stand in the judgement now
And feel that you're to blame somehow
... On earth, I walked with you day by day
And never did you point the way
You knew the Lord in Truth and Glory
But never did you tell the story
My knowledge then was very dim
You could have led me safe to Him2) Though we lived together on the earth
You never told me of the second birth
And now I stand condemned
Because you failed to mention Him.
You taught me things, that is true
I called you friend and trusted you
But I learn now that it is too late
You could have kept me from this fate.3) We walked by day and talked by night
And yet you showed me not the light
You let me live, and love, and die
You knew I would never have lived on high
Yes, I called you a 'friend' in life
And trusted you through joy and strife
And yet on coming to the end
I CANNOT NOW CALL YOU 'MY FRIEND'
May that never be true of you and me!
