BE ALL THE MORE EAGER TO MAKE YOUR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE
I'm sure many a good (and maybe some not so good!) theological debates have revolved around this one!
Is it true that once I'm saved, I'm saved, or aren't I? What ever your theological position on this is, may I respectfully say that it is irrelevant, because God is bigger than our theology! Anyone who has read Job and been where he was must surely come to that conclusion! But let's not get into a debate about that here; let's rather hear what the Holy Spirit is saying as a challenge to us today.
"Be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure." I wonder if Judas Iscariot passed through Peter's mind as he penned these words. Judas as you remember was chosen by Jesus to be one of his close disciples. He was one of the 12 who had a very privileged and special relationship with Jesus, being in His company for 3 years, watching Him, learning from Him and receiving training from Him. He was "called" all right, but look what happened to him.
Surely the situation is not a 'question' of whether I will finally be saved or not, but rather am I 'sold out' to Jesus or aren't I? If you are 'sold out' to Jesus and stay that way, the question will never arise.
Why then do Christians go "off the boil"? Do they lose the wonder of their salvation? Do they lose their expectation of Heaven? Do they lose their abhorrence of sin? Do they lose sight of their Saviour nailed to a cross, dying for them? Do they forget what it means to be forgiven, and what it cost God? Have they forgotten what it really means to be free? Do they no longer see any beauty in Jesus?
Oh, my friend, whoever you are reading this today - if you are not 'sold out' for God, and to Jesus, get on your knees right now. Go on, do it now, don't wait or you'll never do it. Take this book down with you! See again the cross uplifted high, with One, the Man of Sorrows condemned to bleed and die. For you, my friend, for you. He gave His life for you.
What have you given for Him?
Don't delay give your all, right now. Now and for always!
Be 'sold out' to Him continuously, and that really will make your calling and election sure!
