Revelation 21:1
AND THERE WAS NO MORE SEA...
And I, for one, am going to miss it!
Having lived on islands virtually all my life; having taken holidays and a honeymoon on an island, and having lived frequently very close to the sea - the English Channel, the Atlantic Ocean, the Irish Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the South Pacific and the Tasman Sea - I have to admit that I'm going to miss the sea.
At heart I'm a boatie. I've had two, and my father served in the Royal Navy, so I guess it's in my blood. I love the magnificent sunsets you get by the sea as the sun's rays bounce off in all their sparkling brilliance and the colours, whether deep purple to light green or deep red, scarlet, orange or yellow are so much richer when contrasted with or mingling with the sea.
It was while I was beside the sea that I remember I felt the Lord told me to stand and look at this sunset. But why? Because one day we shall see the last sunset. Oh yes, there will always be a dawning but one day the last sunset will be seen - so make the most of them!
No more sunsets, no more sea - and we call it Heaven?
We know that there is no night there, but why no more sea?
Well, have you watched it? Constantly heaving, constantly changing, unpredictable, challenging, relentless, merciless, and above all, restless. I could be wrong but I believe that is why there is no more sea. Because it is restless.
Heaven is where we enter our rest. The water is still there in the River of Life but there will be no more sea.
If the Biblical description of Heaven doesn't live up to your earthly imagination do you still want to go? I do. If God chooses no sea - then it's no sea for me too. He must have something better for us!
Father I find it hard to comprehend Heaven without sea - but I still want to enter into your rest with great joy!
