YOU HAVE TASTED THAT THE LORD IS GOOD
Have you?
I have. I guess it is one of the most important factors or questions in the Christian walk. Because if you haven't tasted that the Lord is good, you will be unable to share that joy with others and it is more than likely, that you will be tempted to "flag it all away." In fact I think it is crucial because in many ways it proves the difference between mere 'head knowledge' and 'heart response,' between 'hereditary Christianity' and 'personal relationship.'
As a Christian parent, my constant prayer is that my children will each have that personal experience of tasting that the Lord is good for themselves. They cannot rely on my experience or my Christianity - they have to experience it for themselves. None of us can do it for anyone else.
As a Pastor it is always so hard, when you dearly want to give folk an 'appetiser' of what you have "tasted of how good the Lord is", and yet you know they have to experience it for themselves, and at that moment they are so unwilling to try!
It starts, of course, with a desire. You will never taste that the Lord is good unless you want to, really want to, rather than just talk about it. Then you have to believe that the Lord IS "Good." So then, our concept of God comes into play. Is God good? Do you really think so or do you just wonder if what people say is true, because you have no first hand reason to believe it for yourself?
Take stock for a moment! Where are you in relation to the war torn areas of the world? Where are you in relation to the famine ravaged countries of the world? I'm O.K. you say, but what about those that live there, do they think God is a good God?
We don't know. All we do know is that Peter thought so; James thought so; Stephen thought so; and Paul thought so - and so have all the martyrs down through the centuries!
So what about you? Forget about everyone else for a moment. DO you know that God is a good God? Have YOU tasted that the Lord is good?

Then isn't it time to share that with others?
