August Topic: Security, Significance and Self-worth |
We all need to come back to basics from time to time and what better time to do it than now. Let's spend this month together reminding ourselves of those important issues which make up some of the foundation of our Christian relationship with God and our walk with Him. |
1 Corinthians 10:13
NO TEMPTATION HAS SEIZED YOU EXCEPT WHAT IS COMMON TO MAN
I find that comforting at times!
As Christians we will never face anything negative that is any more than what is "common to man." We may not think so at the time, but take heart, it isn't! I'm not sure I agree with that song that has the line "Lord. Its worse now than then". Worse now than when Jesus walked on earth. I'm not sure things have got worse. If you read the Old Testament, it seems to me worse then than now! But God chose the "right time" for Jesus to come to earth - and so I think, that suggests, that in some ways, that time was the worst time.
Today, with all our global hi-technology and satellite telecommunications we can see things from all over the world and with the vast increasing numbers of humans I guess it seems worse - but may I suggest it is only worse in volume rather than degree.
No temptation has seized us nor is going to seize us except what is common to man. We read Romans chapter 1 and rightly think that it relates to today- we would almost think we are reading our own daily newspaper, the Bible is so relevant. My point here is, however, that it was just as bad then - nothing has really changed or got worse. As the Scripture says "The heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked." The Flood came because "every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood."
As James says, "when tempted, no one should say God is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone, but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire he is dragged away and enticed."
So what is the antidote? Cleansing in the Blood of the Lamb.
A thought went through my mind recently. "Where did that gross thought come from?" I asked myself. Not from God, that's for sure. But I was tempted by what is common to man, and I had a choice. Either to succumb and give in to it or to do what I did. Ask God to cleanse me in the precious Blood of Jesus immediately, wash my mind pure and permanently expunge and erase the thought from my memory banks. He did!
So take heart, we all suffer in the same way. You are not the only one with the problem - what ever tempts you is "normal" and there is a remedy!
Jesus' blood is sufficient to cleanse us from every sin!
