TAKE OFF YOUR SANDALS FOR THE PLACE YOU ARE STANDING IS HOLY GROUND
Have you been there?
I have, and I have to admit that it is an awesome experience. A time when nothing is good enough except to do just that - take off your shoes in the Presence of a Holy God. Sometimes I have had to do that; other times I have had to lie completely face down on the ground.
Sometimes it is out of awe for what the Lord is saying to me and at other times it is through an overwhelming sense of His love, His grace, His Holiness or His Presence. These times are very special. It is not a time for us to speak; it is a time to be silent!
So often we want to fill the air with the sound of our voices - this is not the time for that - this is the time to literally 'shut up' and enjoy the overwhelming Presence of God. These times, I would suggest, do not normally happen when we are in a crowd - there is no room for exhibitionism, nor carnal responses, here - this is Reality - the finite touching the Infinite, and I find it usually happens in the quietness and solitude of my own home, when I am alone, and able to enjoy my own communion with God.
Yes, I have had the occasional experience of it with others. All of those were in prayer meetings, where we were trying to touch the heart of God. One was when there were just 5 of us and the other when there were more of us but I was way over to one side towards the rear. Each time, however, it was more of a personal response in isolation rather than in any 'expectation rally'!
Moses had gone to find out why the bush, though 'on fire', had not burnt. God said - "that's far enough - you don't need to know all the answers, you need to develop a life of faith and obedience with Me. You wont understand all I plan and do but I want you to remember - I AM holy." We call it a 'needs to know' basis.
As Tennyson wrote in one of his poems "ours not to reason why, ours but to do and die."
God in His infinite love and mercy came down to meet with Moses. This was the first of many very special times for Moses. It was evidently the first of very many special times for God, too. God wants to meet with you, just where you are today - that's the joy and triumph of Calvary.
Are you ready to meet Him?
If so, also be ready to take off your shoes, for the place you are standing is Holy Ground.
