Judges 7:2
YOU HAVE TOO MANY MEN!
How many battles have been lost where people have been shooting at each other because they got in the way!
God chooses fewer people for a variety of reasons. He can only use people who are totally "Sold Out" to Him for the major offensives, and they are in the major minority! Also He uses fewer people because He knows that being few in number they are more likely to listen to their orders from Him and obey Him. Lastly, He will not give His glory to another.
Gideon had to send home the fearful and faint-hearted. Then he had to dismiss the arrogant and self-confident. He was left with the humble and obedient! He was down to 300 - the most unlikely - the meek! Those who were sufficiently humble and obedient to go into battle against 135,000 armed soldiers with just a trumpet and clay pot each!
I think Saul's son Jonathan remembered this story when he said, "Nothing can hinder the Lord saving, whether by many or by few" 1 Samuel 14:6.
Are you waiting for the big "thing", "big vision"? Are you afraid to go out on your own? Does what God has asked you to do seem totally stupid?
You are not alone! Gideon went that way! But just like Jonathan, he found God works in strange and miraculous ways His wonders to perform!
The act is always daunting. The job always seems impossible. The troops always seem too few. But afterwards...! What exhilaration! What an increase in our faith! What a joy in our hearts! What invincibility in our spirits!
Yes - not our strength, not our power, not our might, not our victory. The victory is always His! The glory is always His!
But He invites us to share in the victory so we get a wee glimpse of who our God really is.
Don't wait for too many men. Go in the strength you have and just see what God can do.
