I AM COME THAT YOU MAY HAVE LIFE, AND HAVE IT TO THE FULL
Some people seem to think Jesus said I am come that you may have life and I'll spoil it to the full!
God has a sense of humour. How do I know? He made you the way you are! O.K. that's an old one, but why can't we laugh at ourselves? Why do we have to be so serious all the time? And indeed take ourselves so seriously all the time?
How can I not be serious when so many people are going to Hell? Well, sometimes I think they are going there because the Christian walk we promote and live is so unattractive. If we lightened up a bit and allowed the joy of the Lord to shine through our lives, maybe they would want to give away their facade of happiness and reach out their hands to receive the real joy we have.
Let's be real. What have the unsaved to be joyful about? Insecurity; a lack of self-worth; significance only found fleetingly in things, possessions, ambition, riches, achievements and entertainment. The Seekers sang a song called "The Carnival is over...." - that just about sums it all up. Go to the world's greatest family entertainment centre - Disneyland - and at the end of your passes, that's the end.
Possessions eventually possess you - usually through fear - especially the fear of them being broken, stolen or through the potential loss of value. T.V. programmes and movies concentrate on murder and fear. So what joy can the unsaved have? The very best they could ever experience is temporary.
Jesus has given us - Eternal Life. Life in all its fullness. Yes, not a temporary experience, an everlasting joy in the Presence of Jesus. Don't let satan fool you. He will try and tell you that the world is full of pleasures. Maybe, but those are only passing and empty. They don't satisfy but leave you dissatisfied wanting something else to fill the void they leave. They will ensnare you into never being satisfied - you will always crave more. That's how and why addictions begin.
Jesus sets us free to enjoy His creation in a totally new dimension, emanating from knowing the Creator intimately. Jesus sets us free to enjoy relationships- those that are lasting and deep. He sets our spirits free by releasing His Holy Spirit in us. He gives us new joys as we experience miracles in our normal lives as we serve God and reach out to others. We have total security in His love. And not only that but also the deep peace and joy of knowing that we are totally forgiven.
Make a quick check up today. Are you living life to the full? If not, why not? It's only found in Jesus - so you have to belong to Him first.
If you do belong to Him, you need to be outward looking too, seeking to witness and minister to others. Then you will see the dynamic power of God at work through your life and you will never want to go back to a humdrum existence. God has called you to fulfil His plan for your life. Wherever you are, at home, at work, enjoying recreation or in a church setting, they should all be the same. He IS WITH you always... AND...
He has come that you might have life to the full - wherever you are at the time!
