HAVE THEM MAKE A SANCTUARY FOR ME AND I WILL DWELL AMONG THEM
God came down in the cool of the day for Adam and Eve.
God came down to rescue the Hebrews from Egypt. Here God is going to 'come down' again to dwell among them! Notice, please, that it was not Moses' idea but God's. More than that, as I am trying to show you this month, it has always been God's Eternal plan to have intimate fellowship with us. Here is just one more example.
How would you go about making a sanctuary for God? I think, if I am honest, I'd put it in the too hard basket! I somehow think Moses would do so too!
He'd been brought up in the palaces of Pharaoh and yet met God in a bush in the desert, which burned and yet, was not consumed. He had seen opulence and a lack of God, and the simplicity of a desert bush revealing the Glory of God. Which would you choose? Try to emulate man's glory to fit God in or try to copy the simple bush and yet try to make it holy? See his problem?
Just as well God gave him the design wasn't it! God is in to symbolism, to try and help us get a grasp on who He is and what He has done - a gateway between the finite and the Infinite.
Time and space here do not permit us the joy of looking into the Tabernacle fittings, coverings, textures and precise design but I find it interesting that God started with the simple and made it divine.
He took a 'tent' and turned it into a Tabernacle. He does the same today. He meets us where we are - He doesn't wait for us to get to where He is! He remains simple so that each one of us can 'come to Him' in response to His coming to us.
"Just as I am without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee -
O Lamb of God, I come."
God's desire is always to spend time with us, to have fellowship with us.
