THOMAS WAS NOT WITH THEM
Why not?
Where was he? What was he up to? Had he given up on Jesus? Was his grief just too great? Was he struggling with what had happened? Was he trying to "make sense" of all that Jesus had said and done? Was the reality of all the events, too hard to understand?
Whatever the truth, Thomas missed out. He missed out on the company of his friends. He missed out on their empathy. They were really the only ones who could understand what he was going through.
In times of difficulty we need friends, not isolation. If you feel down, go to the Cell Group don't stay home. If you feel rejected and unloved, go to the Cell Group - don't shut yourself away. God made us creatures who need relationship - however strained it is, it is better than isolation. Better still, go and sort out the reason for the strain!
Thomas was not with them. They missed out too! Why? Because Thomas wasn't with them. Probably they were worried about him. Is he all right? Is he ill? Has something happened to him? Will he give us away?
More than that, Jesus missed out! How do I know? Because He had to come back a week later - just for Thomas. How excited all the others would have been, and yet he dampened it all by saying "unless I put my finger into the nail prints I will not believe."
Have there been times when you've been missing?
I know there have been for me. I've heard all the excitement but it just isn't the same? Even the tape or the record isn't the same. We need to be there "live".
Can I challenge you today?
Resolve always to be where you should be, so that you don't miss out on the visit of Jesus.
