April Topic: CHRIST'S RESURRECTION |
This is what sets Christianity apart from all other religions. You cannot build up a lasting meaningful relationship with someone who is dead! That is why Christianity is NOT a religion. We have a unique relationship with God's One & Only Son who is Alive today and for evermore. That is a meaningful relationship! Come; let's remind ourselves about what happened... |
John 20:28
MY LORD AND MY GOD
I think we are all far too hard on Thomas.
All we remember about Thomas is that he wasn't there when he should have been and he doubted the resurrection until he saw Jesus. Also that Jesus said to him "Because you have seen me you have believed; happy are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
But Jesus had a soft spot for Thomas. You see God loves people who are real and honest. He is still one of the twelve apostles and we will never be able to take that away from him.
I like what John records. Oh yes, he records the whole saga, but verse 28 is in there too. Verse 27 Jesus said "Put your finger here; see My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe." (It doesn't actually say he did do that! I don't think he had to, do you?)
Were any of the other disciples any better? Did they not refuse to believe the women? They didn't believe until they saw Jesus either.
But - now here's what I find interesting - verse 28. Thomas said, "My Lord and my God".
Did any of the other disciples say that? Not that I've read in my Bible! Here was his late but very real and I would suggest very humble confession. Yes, you are my Lord and my God!
Tell me something - have you seen Jesus yet? Have you reached out your finger and put it into His hand and reached out your hand and thrust it into His side - and stopped doubting and started to believe?
Have you in all sincerity, honesty and humility fallen on your knees at His feet and exclaimed my Lord and my God?
If not - do it now! Don't put it off, do it now, and not only will you never forget it you will never regret it.
And even if you have done it before - why not do it again, with me, now?
He is my Lord and my God!
