August Topic: Security, Significance and Self-worth |
We all need to come back to basics from time to time and what better time to do it than now. Let's spend this month together reminding ourselves of those important issues which make up some of the foundation of our Christian relationship with God and our walk with Him. |
2 Peter 1:16
WE WERE EYEWITNESSES OF HIS MAJESTY
Wow! What a thing to be able to say!
We were eyewitnesses of His Majesty! We are talking here of something totally unique. "Yes, we walked with Him for 3 years; through times of acceptance and opposition; through the good, the bad and the ugly; witnessing miracles that declared and proved His Divinity. But this was something even greater. WE WERE EYEWITNESSES OF HIS MAJESTY!"
Peter, James and John had this very special privilege. Jesus took them up the mountain and God the Father chose that moment for Jesus to be "transfigured". The three were given an exclusive experience. Jesus revealed a small portion of His eternal greatness and His disciples were totally overwhelmed. As they looked they saw Jesus talking to Elijah and Moses. Elijah representing the Prophets and Moses, the Law. (Did you realise Moses did eventually enter the Promised Land? Yes, right here and now at Jesus' transfiguration, Moses enters the Promised Land - What a moment for him!)
Peter is moved beyond all reason and control. "Let us make three booths; one for Jesus; one for Elijah and one for Moses." Whatever for? So he could stay with his mountain-top experience forever? God has other plans! Elijah and Moses are eclipsed and the Voice from Heaven says, "This is My Son, who I love dearly, with Him I am well pleased." When they opened their eyes, they saw Jesus only.
Will you be an eyewitness to His Majesty? For what reason? So you can "stay on the mountain?" So you can be "one up" on your brothers and sisters in Christ? I believe, by faith, we can all "see" His Majesty. But, please use the experience as they did - to proclaim and establish the Good News - Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah. He is the Christ and He is the Saviour of the world.
Come with me, back to the Cross. Look full into the face of Jesus. See those eyes of love saying afresh to you right now "I'm here in your place. I'm paying the price for you. All your sin, all your failure, all your selfishness, all your rebellion, all your sickness I'm bearing for you."
Come with me now to the empty tomb, and see its inscription "He is not here - for He is risen" See Him ascended into Heaven and sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Come into the very Throne Room. Hear the angels, numbering ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands and thousands singing in a loud voice "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power, and wealth, wisdom and strength, and honour and glory and praise."
I've seen His Majesty today - have you?
