November Topic: EMMANUEL - GOD WITH US |
WE HAVE SEEN HIS GLORY! Let's spend November together looking at the fact that God longs to be with us and for us to spend time with Him. |
2 Chronicles 2:6
BUT WHO IS ABLE TO BUILD A TEMPLE FOR HIM... SINCE EVEN THE HIGHEST HEAVENS CANNOT CONTAIN HIM?
Have you ever been asked to follow through on someone else's vision?
I have and it's not easy. First of all you have to make it 'your vision' - you have to 'own it' for yourself. That doesn't mean you change it - it means you submerge yourself into it. You recognise it as a vision from God.
Remember, a vision from God is really a plan of His which He shares with us so that we can become a part of it. That's how the 'job' is made easier! It's not 'my' vision; its God's plan in which He invites me to play a part.
David had the vision to build God a Temple. It came from a heart of love, dedication and being 'sold out' to God. As God said of David - He has a heart after Me. But nevertheless, God said "You are not the one who will build it because you have the death of too many men on your hands."
So Solomon was the one chosen by God. The second son of Bathsheba! Not Absolom, not Amnon, but Solomon whom God had named Jedidiah - 'Loved of the Lord.' David wanted to build the Temple and God graciously allowed him to make the plans but the building of it was passed on to Solomon. Why Solomon?
Firstly, the name Solomon is like 'Peace.' But God also knew his heart, too. Remember, God said to Solomon "Ask for whatever you want Me to give you." He replied "Grant me wisdom and knowledge that I may lead this people; for who is able to govern this great people of Yours?"
This is the sort of heart that God loves - a humble heart - a heart after people, a heart after God. That is the sort of person God will allow to build Him a Temple.
Solomon writes to Hiram for help - just as his father had done for his palace. "The Temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods. But who is able to build a Temple for Him, since the Heavens, even the Highest Heavens cannot contain Him? Who then, am I, to build a Temple for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?"
What would you build? Solomon's Temple was probably the greatest building that has ever been constructed throughout the whole history of man on earth.
Why a Temple? Because the heart of God has always been toward the heart of man - to be with him and to develop an intimate relationship.
How is your intimate relationship with God developing?
