This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |

AQUILA AND PRISCILLA ... AND THE CHURCH THAT MEETS IN THEIR HOUSE
It's often a matter of attitude isn't it?
We can either be dominated by our circumstances or we can use them to mould our character. We either succumb to adversity or rise above it and through it bless others.
Aquila & Priscilla did just that. Forced out of home, just because they were Jews; having to live in different towns and circumstances and yet when Paul refers to them it is usually to send greetings from them "and the Church that meets in their house".
There is a difference between a house and a home isn't there? Some houses you go into are "show homes". They stand as a testimony to the owner's status, achievements, wealth and prosperity. Though in the West, you still have to remove your shoes before you cross the threshold for fear of bringing in "something" which might contaminate!
You dare not sit down, in case you crease the cream leather upholstery, and so you tip toe from one spot to another and long for the moment you can leave.
Others are so "natural" that you likely to "get something" on your clothes wherever you sit down! As someone else has said "you can eat off the floor - well you are bound to find something down there to eat!"
Then there are those gems. You go in and the peace of God calms you at the entrance. You don't "notice" the furniture because the host and hostess are welcoming you and you feel instantly "at home". Not being "fussed over" all the time but just made immediately part of the family and home. As we say to our guests - "treat the place as your own but please leave the piano where it is!"
Aquila & Priscilla must have had such a home.
How do I know? Because the Church met there. They wouldn't have done so if they weren't made to feel welcome. What a wonderful use for our homes! A place where "the Church" is welcome gets fed and grows.
