June Topic: FAITH (for without faith it is impossible to please God)

This month let's have a look at how we can please God and at the same time experience the dynamic power of God which will make our Christianity very exciting and totally contagious!

Joshua 5:13

ARE YOU FOR US OR FOR OUR ENEMIES?

Of all the "encounters" in Scripture this has got to be one of my favourites.

Words cannot express the full poignancy of this meeting but let's try a bit. Joshua spied out the Promised Land 40 years ago. He told the people "Come on, let's go in and take it. God has given it to us." The people rebelled and he had to wander with them for the next 40 years in defeat and limbo.

He knows his destiny, but because of others' doubt, he had to remain behind with them - a tall order for anyone. Now his best friend, closest confidant and leader - the one he looked up to and respected is dead - and the "mantle" has been passed to him. The only other one left is Caleb. Yes, he is a mighty man of God - but he is not Moses. Joshua was God's appointed assistant to Moses. Moses is dead and God comes to Joshua and says, "Now is the time!"

"Wow!" Can you feel the tingles up your spine? "Now is the time!" Joshua wisely sends out his spies - they come back "yes - now is the time!" Joshua consecrates the people and circumcises them to the Lord. They celebrate Passover again. This is the first time since leaving Egypt - (they left there at Passover). Now in the desert, they celebrate Passover once more. It is time to leave the desert, too!

Joshua approaches Jericho and sees a man standing with a drawn sword in his hand. (I'm finding it hard to write this through my tears!) What was it about that man? I can only assume he must have been huge. Something about his bearing, his manner, and his sword stopped Joshua in his tracks! Joshua did not back off - but went up "Are you for us or our enemies?" I honestly don't think Joshua was prepared for the reply. I certainly wouldn't have been either!

"Neither! But as Commander of the Army of the Lord, I have now come" or as the King James version says "As Commander of the Lord of Hosts I am come!"

Ever felt humble? Joshua wisely and understandably did! "What message do you have?"

"Take off your sandals!"

What did his reply mean?

"I'M NOT HERE TO TAKE SIDES - I'M HERE TO TAKE OVER!"

Joshua thought he was going to win - now he KNEW!

Someone greater than Moses was here!

Have you a "Jericho" in your life guarding the way to the Promised Land or your vision? Oh, today open your eyes and see - the Commander of the Lord's Army! He is not here to watch; He is not here to take sides. HE IS HERE TO TAKE OVER!

My advice is - get out of the way and LET HIM DO IT!

Your Jericho will fall - and great will be the fall of it. Total annihilation!
