God's promises are sure! Let's spend this month, the last of the year, reminding ourselves that His promises are sure and certain, and then let's become a grateful people! |
Isaiah 40:3
A VOICE OF ONE CALLING..."PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE LORD!"
John the Baptist appropriated this to and for himself.
Since I am a 'John', too, I want to do the same! Isaiah starts off "Comfort, comfort My people" says your God. The time was coming when Israel's sins would be paid for - by Another! John had the privilege of 'working' under the banner of 'comfort' - Good News. Yes, his mission was to call for repentance, but it was done to prepare for the greatest Good News this world was ever to receive.
I believe history is repeating itself - over 2000 years later! The people are still 'in the wilderness' and our job is to go there and make a straight highway for our God.
I believe that is what God is, in fact, waiting for! Until we, as His people, make the highway straight, Jesus will not return. I believe the Great Commission, as we call it, is actually identified here as a highway.
Once we have fulfilled the Great Commission, the highway will be in place for the King of kings and Lord of lords to walk down it! Jesus will return!
What greater privilege can you or I have than to prepare the way of the Lord? All our submission to His will and purposes; all our discipleship of others; all our work for the Kingdom of God - all put together help prepare the way for the Lord.
The greatest expectation in and for the Church worldwide, today, is for the second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the 'Way of the Lord.'
Yes, He is preparing to come - Yes, He wants to return - Yes, He will return, but He is waiting for us to finish 'preparing the Way' for Him to come.
So if we want it sooner rather than later; if we want it in our lifetime, in our generation...
Then, let's together, go out into the wilderness and...
PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE LORD!
