God's promises are sure!

Let's spend this month, the last of the year, reminding ourselves that His promises are sure and certain, and then let's become a grateful people!

Luke 1:38

MAY IT BE TO ME AS YOU HAVE SAID

When Paul exhorted us to "present our bodies a living sacrifice" I wonder if he was thinking of Mary!

Let's just think about Mary for a moment. We understand that she may well have been just a teenager. She was betrothed (engaged) to be married to Joseph. It may even have been an arranged match. Both of them were from poor working class backgrounds although their heritage was impressive - particularly Mary's.

Like any other normal young couple, they were 'in love,' had plans and dreams, had expectations and hopes. They were already in that bittersweet relationship - not really one thing or the other - they were no longer 'single' but neither were they 'married.' It was a testing time for both of them and yet into that very set of circumstances God came!

He sent His Messenger. No, not a prophet this time. An angel! Mary had no doubt been told all about Zechariah's previous meeting with Gabriel and had seen the result!

(Well, she couldn't have heard it, could she?!) No, Zechariah was now dumb! Gabriel was having a busy year! Now, he came to Mary.

I'm quite sure that no matter how old we are, when we meet an angel, we will be surprised and awe struck! Remember, Mary was only a teenager! He not only told her she was to have a child, a son, but God was to be the father! How would you feel? Mary, humbly and submissively replies - " May it BE TO ME as you have said."

Yes, she really did present her body a living sacrifice to God. No matter the shame; no matter the impossibilities; no matter the future; no matter the present; no matter the challenges; no matter the cost - at that very moment she offered her body as a living sacrifice to God to use it as He chose and as He pleased.

Mary gave up all of her 'rights' to Him. Her life was no longer under her control. From now on there was only one agenda and that was God's agenda. God's Will and Word were her life.

She abdicated her throne, so that God could sit on it.

What about you?

Have you said the same to God or are you still waiting for the Archangel to arrive first?
