MAY I NEVER BOAST EXCEPT IN THE CROSS
Why the Cross?
Why not miracles? Why not the Resurrection? Why not my 'spiritual' successes and our 'successful missions' etc. Why the Cross?
What was the first sin? Disobedience by Adam and Eve? No. Pride! The pride of one of the chief angels - satan. Pride in his heart that he could be like the Most High.
Pride remains today as man's biggest challenge. I am always somewhat bemused and saddened to find that if a Christian leader is 'caught' in a sexual sin he is quite rightly disciplined by the church, but if he is 'suffering' from pride he gets promoted!
We constantly need to check our values in line with the Word of God and not the way of the world! Paul says here "the cross ... through which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world."
Firstly, it reminds me that the cross is what I deserved. I am nothing. I am still a sinner - but now saved by grace.
Secondly, it reminds me that I have been bought with a price. I am not my own, I have a new "Owner". I can't just do what I want to do - I have to be obedient to the Will of Christ.
Thirdly, it reminds me that from now on, my affections, my desires, my destiny are no longer to be "world oriented" but Heaven focused.
Fourthly, it reminds me that the world crucified Jesus - so too it will crucify me if I am a real follower of Jesus Christ.
Fifthly, it reminds me that what I need is not to "turn over a new leaf", but to repent, confess my sins and be saved. I have to die to my old way of living and thinking and be renewed by the Word of God.
Sixthly, it reminds me that the Lord has called me to lay down my life for others.... particularly so that they might know the power of the Cross of Christ too. That is to be my No 1 priority and not relegated to later or another time.
God doesn't overlook sin He dealt with it! That is worth boasting about. No other religion will do that.
There is no other sacrifice for sin, no matter where you look!
That is worth boasting about.
Neither does any other religion guarantee a final glorious Heaven with eternal life in the constant presence of God and His Son. That is worth boasting about, too!
For on the Cross, my sin and yours, past, present and future was finally dealt with forever.
Let us boast about the Cross of Jesus Christ, to someone, today!
