Revelation 22:2
STOOD THE TREE OF LIFE
John's vision is so full of imagery isn't it?
The Tree of Life. There it stood in all its splendour in the Garden of Eden. And yet "we" in the form of Adam, chose instead the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and from that very second onwards God had to bar our entrance to the Tree of Life lest we take its fruits and eat it and thus stay in that "state" forever.
But what Adam destroyed and lost, Christ restored. Here in Heaven, the Tree of Life is restored to us - we have gained, once more, free access. Yes, as we can imagine, it constantly bears fruit - a crop each month - year round, it is fruitful. Year round, we have access. Year round, we can taste and see that the Lord is good and receive His eternal life. Furthermore, it is on either side of the river, so no matter which side we are on at the time, we can still avail ourselves of its fruit and blessing.
The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil brought only evil upon us. It has no place in Heaven. Evil cannot enter it, no deception, no pretence, no doubt - just joy, love and faithfulness. The Tree of Knowledge promised one thing but delivered another. The Tree of Life can only deliver one thing - LIFE!
But what to a Jew is the Tree of Life? It is the spindles of the scrolls, which contain the Word of God. They are called "Trees of Life". They are irreversibly connected to the Word of God. The Word of God, which brings life to all who accept it and walk in its paths.
Jesus Himself is the Word of God. He said when He was on earth - I am come that they may have life and life in all its fullness. He is the Word of Life as well as the Word of God.
Proverbs 4:4 says "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live". God's Word doesn't change.
It is life to us now as we await our destiny. Then we shall have life through it for evermore!
The joy and privilege for us is that we can have a foretaste right here and now on this earth!
