Hebrews 11:27
HE PERSEVERED BECAUSE HE SAW HIM WHO IS INVISIBLE
What a wonderful Biblical paradox!
He saw Him who is invisible. Have you? Have you, by faith, seen the invisible God? Do you know Him? Do you know Him intimately? Do you know how He acts, how He speaks, how He feels?
There was a guy called Blondin. He was an internationally famous trapeze artist. He walked across a tightrope high up above the Niagara Falls. Everyone cheered.
"Do you believe I could walk across pushing a wheelbarrow?" "Yes!" They all shouted. "Could I do it with someone in it?" "Of course, you can!" "Okay let me have a volunteer!" "Come on someone volunteer!" "How can I prove it to you if no one will volunteer?" After many challenging requests, one brave (or stupid or pushed) person came stumbling forward and was eventually perfectly safely transported across.
Faith is no faith until you and I get 'into' that wheelbarrow. But I don't believe God expects us to have what is called "blind faith". That is like getting on a tightrope blindfolded and as you get to the middle the unsecured end slips and you fall to your embarrassment or death.
No, I don't think God expects that of us. He expects obedient faith! Faith, what in? Faith in the God we have got to know. Faith is a gift. God gives it to us in a greater and greater measure as we get to know Him better and better.
As your focus on Him becomes clearer, your faith increases and your ability to persevere expands. God doesn't expect you to be blind ... He expects you to see the invisible.
Day by day, three things I pray "To love you more dearly; see you more clearly; follow you more nearly day by day."
