WHEN YOU PRAY
Do you?
If you want to make another Christian feel really condemned, just tell them they don't pray enough, don't read their Bible enough, or don't have long enough quiet times!
Easy isn't it? But what is "Enough"? 24 hours a day? 7 days a week? I doubt it! I'm certainly not that good a Christian!
I remember years ago getting a bit uptight with similar remarks being made and I shall never forget the Lord dropping into my mind "Abraham".
So what? "Abraham". What about it? "He is the 'father of the faithful'". "He is the one you can imitate!" Okay good idea. "How much time did he spend reading the Bible?" Not a lot! "How much time did he spend in prayer?" Not a lot as far as we know. "Be like him!" What? "Be like him" What's the answer? "He WALKED with God". "He breathed God" "He had such a close relationship with Him that it didn't merit 'special times' of prayer and reading the word". He "lived" it!
From that day on I felt totally "released" and yet my Bible study increased and I now "commune" with God almost constantly. Not necessarily verbally - but I know He is there, and I "feel" His will and have learnt His ways.
Jesus expects His followers, His disciples to pray!
I believe there are different types of prayer. Not only worship, thanksgiving, intercession, and supplication but also personal prayer, group prayer and corporate prayer.
But go back and take another look at Matthew 6 verses 5 to 15 and ask the Lord to speak to you through His word about prayer and how you should do it and then just sit quietly and LET HIM TALK TO YOU - that "bit" of prayer that is so neglected.
Oh yes, we'll pray if we can do all the talking!
Read verse 7 again and then just sit and listen! (For a change!)
