This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |

SET APART FOR ME BARNABAS AND SAUL
Isn't God good? Not just set apart for Me, Saul - but set apart for Me, Barnabas and Saul.
Barnabas is one of those very rare people - you meet them about once a lifetime - unless you are very privileged. He was an encourager.
I thought every Christian should/would be an encourager. How naive I was!
(I even went to a Church, which appointed an encourager, only to be discouraged by them when I had been invited to preach!)
Encouragers aren't appointed. Encouragers aren't even specially anointed. Encouragers choose to be encouragers!
We've all been anointed to be encouragers, but for most of us, we want others to encourage us, so we haven't got the time or energy to encourage others.
So here, we have fiery Saul - the man with a mission - and Barnabas as his right hand man. All "visionaries" need a right hand man and most of them desperately need a Barnabas. Its hard being a visionary, but it can be even harder being a "Barnabas". Not only must you encourage the visionary but often you have to diplomatically "mop up" after them!
God knew that. That's why He set them both apart.
But what were they set apart for? To preach the Gospel to the Jews and eventually the Gentiles. To preach the Good News to the nations.
You and I are blessed today because God set apart Saul and Barnabas, and because of their obedience to that call.
Has God set you apart? To be a visionary? To find a Barnabas and go to the nations to preach?
If neither of those seems to gel right now - ask God to reveal His will to you.
In the meantime choose to be an encourager!
