Revelation 2:26 - 28
TO HIM WHO OVERCOMES ... I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS; (AND) THE MORNING STAR
THYATIRA - (Overcoming - compromise)
Compromise! That was the problem here.
No great city, Thyatira was just a town in a valley on the way to Pergamum! An industrious town, which had many guilds for the owners and workers to attend. Similar to the unions and Masonic lodges of today.
"Come and join us! There's no harm in your scratching my back, so I can scratch yours. Our feasts and rituals are harmless enough. What's a little revelry every now again between friends? There's no harm in having a little bit of fun is there? We do, after all, have a religious base to all we do."
But that's just the problem. The Biblical God expects us to be a Holy people - separated out to Him and to Him alone. He says, "You shall have no other gods before Me." "You tolerate Jezebel." If Jezebel was out and out occultist, they would probably have reacted and kept clear, but she wasn't. She just used subtle persuasion and gentle infiltration to accomplish her goal, and the Church was falling for it.
She probably adopted satan's approach "Did God really say..." "Did God say we shouldn't do that? What harm can it do? Does it really matter? Why make a fuss and dance about it? You won't win the people over by ostracising them or yourself. God doesn't want to stop you having fun, does He?"
So the clarity of what is Holy and Godly becomes clouded. We no longer make a stand because we have forgotten how to make a stand and nothing is considered important enough to make a stand for anyway. The worldliness of society (often initially fuelled by a determined minority) continues to creep into the Church, so that the Church becomes impotent, voiceless and compromised.
Oh dear, isn't that where we are today? (Sounds horribly familiar doesn't it?) Where is the Church's voice? Where is the Christian voice? We can't even agree to stop the murder of babies, under the guise of humane abortion, let alone eradicate gambling, casinos, or deviant behaviours like homosexuality. The voice of the Western Church is mute!
Why? Don't blame the leaders alone! Each one of us is responsible to one degree or another. Each one of us is to blame to some measure. Evil triumphs because good men and women are silent.
What do YOU do about these things? Say how terrible it is and why doesn't someone DO something about it? Say, how inept the Church is for failing the congregation and society, through not making a united stand?
Hey, we need to repent! Get back on track and get a backbone! If not, not only do we not overcome, but the world goes to Hell.
To him who overcomes I will give the nations! Be a missionary, start claiming your inheritance!
And ...The Morning Star - Christ Himself! He will possess Christ, never to lose Him again!
