As it is not until we have a deep appreciation of what GRACE is and means, that we really come into the full liberty in Christ that we have been purchased to experience, let's take this month to explore some of its depths and treasures. |
Ephesians 2:9
NOT BY WORKS...
"Only by grace can we enter. Only by grace can we stand.
Not by our human endeavour but by Your grace we come.
Lord, if You count our transgressions who could stand?
But by Your grace we are cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb.
Only by grace can we enter. Only by grace can we stand.
Not by our human endeavour but by Your grace alone."
Something within us keeps gnawing away trying to get us to think we can 'do something' for God! We find it so hard to accept His unconditional love, grace and favour even after we are saved - and then, sometimes, even after we have been saved for years!
However, God hasn't changed the rules, nor moved the goal posts! Our salvation is NOT BY WORKS. We can be very grateful for that, because our works will never be good enough. God through Isaiah tells us in Isaiah Chapter 64:6 that all our righteous Acts are as filthy rags in His sight, so our works would be even worse.
When we are first saved we want God to do things for us. After a while as we travel along the pathway, we want to do things for Him, Then we find we can't live the Christian life and feel despondent. Eventually we learn to offer ourselves to Him so that He can accomplish His will in and through us.
"Please help us, Father, to stop striving. To accept instead the finished work of Christ your Beloved One and Only Son, and to yield ourselves to be just channels of Your love and grace to others."
If you said "Amen" to that prayer, you are well on your way to begin to understand what God meant when He said through Paul -
"NOT BY WORKS SO THAT NO-ONE CAN BOAST"
