October Topic: Grace |
As it is not until we have a deep appreciation of what GRACE is and means, that we really come into the full liberty in Christ that we have been purchased to experience, let's take this month to explore some of its depths and treasures. |
Ephesians 2:10
WE ARE GOD'S WORKMANSHIP
If we let Him!
God is a holy God and a 'wholly' God! When God calls us it is not just for the moment. When He saves us it is not just for the moment and when He brings us into relationship with Himself that is not just for that moment either. His desire is to make us more and more like Jesus, so that we can be Jesus on earth today. Every evidence there is in us that in anyway reflects Jesus has been put there by Father through the work of His Holy Spirit. We can never claim to have done that ourselves.
We are God's workmanship - it is a lifelong process. It is also conditional. Not from God's perspective but from ours! His love, power, grace and commitment to the fulfilment of His work in us is totally unconditional - but we can 'limit' it by our lack of obedience, lack of trust and lack of faith.
However, Paul reminds us that God has a plan and purpose for us... "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do!" He has already 'ordained' us to do good works. That's not just for the 'paid full-time clergy' - that is for all of us. Each one of us has been set apart - made holy - to do good works.
What are those "good works"? Not things about which we can boast! But those things that God will do in and through us by the indwelling and outworking of His Holy Spirit. In our ignorance we say, "Brother/sister X has a healing ministry". No, the Holy Spirit has a healing ministry and God's work through brother/sister X shows and demonstrates it because they are God's workmanship.
The same is true of prophecy and all the other spiritual giftings. They all come from the same Holy Spirit. They do not belong to us - they are not ours, but they are all God's workmanship, which He demonstrates through us for His glory.
More than that there is fruit of the Spirit. The love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control that I exercise and enjoy, all come from the outworking of God's workmanship in my life.
As I allow Him to accomplish His plans and purposes for me!How is it coming on in you?
