November Topic: EMMANUEL - GOD WITH US |
WE HAVE SEEN HIS GLORY! Let's spend November together looking at the fact that God longs to be with us and for us to spend time with Him. |
Genesis 2:18
IT IS NOT GOOD FOR MAN TO BE ALONE...
Why did He say that?
He has just created him. Did He create something imperfect? Or was it only half done?
I tend to think that man couldn't handle all that God had given him! God didn't start again from scratch. He took from what He had already made, Adam, and from his rib, made Eve.
Adam was obviously lonely. He had been looking at all those animals as they passed by and naming them all. But was the hippo the last to go by? Did he say, "No, God, I have tried all day to build a relationship with these animals - but I ask You - I passed them all by and then you send me a hippo? Surely You can do better than that!"?
God recognised something in Adam that reflected His own heart. He had created Adam for fellowship. Now man needed his own fellowship maker. And Wow! What a fellowship maker God provided in Eve! I'm quite sure Adam was overwhelmed!
I understand the Jews hold that an unmarried man is incomplete. I understand and agree with that thought. However hard we try to go it alone, we remain sadly incomplete. I feel even more hopelessly incomplete if my wife, Cathryn, is not with me (or even is just ill) now that we've been married over 20 years!
But God was doing even more than just meeting Adam's needs. He was presenting us with a Divine picture. The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us in the human incarnate Son, Jesus Christ. He never married and therefore died 'incomplete'. The Bible tells us that WE are the Bride of the Lamb, and we look forward to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
God gave us the picture of human marriage and the beauty, and intensity of that intimate relationship to show us a glimpse of His eternal Plan that "it is not good for the Man, 'Jesus' to be alone! God was to provide a plan for Him to have His 'helper' too!"
He will return for His Bride, His Church.
Isn't that awesome?
