God's promises are sure!

Let's spend this month, the last of the year, reminding ourselves that His promises are sure and certain, and then let's become a grateful people!

Psalm 103:3

HE FORGIVES ALL MY SINS...

I used to think that a sin was a sin, was a sin, and in one-way that is true.

Whatever I say, or do or think which is contrary to the will of God, is sin. I don't agree that there are degrees of sin, for each sin separates us from God. In another sense there are 'other' sins. We can sin - with other people, we can sin against other people and we can sin 'on our own'!

One of the old hymns, I love, has this line - 'my open sins, my secret sins can all forgiven be!'

Again I am grateful to some Church of England liturgy, I came across some years back, which was quite an eye-opener to me ... "We confess our sins of commission and sins of omission." That was new territory to me. I could understand and be sorry for the sins I had committed. Yes, I was truly responsible for those.

But sins of omission? Hang on a minute - where do you draw the line? And yet Paul acknowledges their ever-present reality in Romans 7. In that well known tongue-twisting passage 7:15-25 he shows the struggles between good and evil, between the law of God and the law of sin and death.

Yes, God does hold us accountable - not only for what we do - but also for what we don't do, which we know we should do and could do.

However, the Good News is written right here in the Old Testament.

HE FORGIVES ALL MY SINS. Yes ALL of them. Not just some.

When I come to Him in humble contrite repentance, He forgives all my sins so there are none left hidden or outstanding.

Yes, He didn't overlook them; He dealt with them and forgave them.

Doesn't that make you thankful?
