HEAVEN AND EARTH WILL PASS AWAY BUT MY WORD WILL NEVER PASS AWAY
It will and it won't!
It will - this heaven and earth will pass away - that's fact! God has ordained that its lifetime is finite. Finite man in a finite cosmos. But when the New Heaven and New earth come they will be as eternal as our eternal souls and resurrected bodies. The incomplete will give way to the complete, the perishable to the imperishable, and the imperfect to the perfect!
Yes, there are better things to come, so hold on to this world but very lightly. The things of this world are temporary. However good they may be, they are wearing out like a garment. Don't become too attached. Don't let their appeal destroy your vision, or your hold on the eternal. Enjoy what the Lord entrusts to you, yes, but never forget we are just pilgrims passing through.
It won't - MY Word will never pass away. How do we know? Because HE IS THE ETERNAL EVERLASTING WORD OF GOD. THE WORD MADE FLESH NOW ASCENDED AND GLORIFIED. Jesus was again declaring His Deity, His Divinity - claiming to be God! He had prophesied the fall of Jerusalem about 40 years before it happened. He was assuring them, His listeners, that what He had just predicted would take place. For them, too, their 'world' did pass away in AD 70. Even the Temple was razed to the ground and a Gentile plough was drawn across its foundations. Yes, and that generation witnessed it.
But more than that 'ALL' His words will never pass away, because He is the Eternal Word. That gives us confidence, doesn't it? Every word is true. Every word will be fulfilled - not one will be passed over - and none may be ignored.
Man may, in his arrogance and ignorance, discuss the validity and veracity of His works and words, or just some of His words. But Jesus says, "My words will never pass away." Which would you rather believe? The spotless Word of God or the sinful words of man?
Fear not, my friend. Those of us, who have put our trust in Jesus, will never be put to shame.
Even when this earth and heaven are destroyed - His Word will remain, never to pass away!
