AMEN, COME, LORD JESUS
This is a challenge, isn't it?
Can I really say that today? When looking towards the end of time, Peter writes, "(in that case) what sort of people should we be?"
If Jesus came today, would I still say, "Amen, come, Lord Jesus? Would He find me "watching" or will I, like Adam and Eve, try and hide because I realise I'm naked? The Holy God is coming - are you ready? Will you rejoice to see Him, or as you read this, is your honest and natural reaction to say - excuse me, but could You wait a little longer. There is still much of this world's pleasures I want to experience. I'm not ready to give them up yet?
Maybe yours is a different reaction. Lord, there are still so many of my relatives and friends who don't know You, and who will end up in hell if You come now.
Yes, it is a watershed reality isn't it?
As we saw yesterday - He is on His way. The world hasn't changed that significantly from the time of John until today. Violence, crime, sexual perversion, famines and war are nothing new. Yet John says, "Amen, come, Lord Jesus."
How was he able to say that?
He had "seen the glory of God". He knew that righteousness and truth, love and justice are a far better way. He rejoiced that sin, rebellion and wickedness had been dealt with and he had seen the 'effect' of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. Totally efficacious. Totally sufficient and totally free to all.
Though God is a God of love not willing that any should perish, He also knows that there is a point beyond which men choose not to change. They allow their lives to be destroyed by pride, arrogance, greed and independence.
John knew that no one will go to hell unless they are totally determined to do so. He knew that God is a righteous judge and all we can say to His judgements and actions is "AMEN". He also knew that God's timing is also perfect.
With that as the background, He looked forward to the time when righteousness, love, joy, peace, justice, and perfect relationships are restored forever - never to be broken, destroyed or marred again and he was able to say... - AMEN, COME LORD JESUS.
So can I - can you?
