This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |

RETURN HOME AND TELL HOW MUCH HE HAS DONE FOR YOU
But I want to follow Jesus!
The man having been healed by Jesus of "the legion" now seeks to stay with Him and "follow Him". But Jesus has other plans!
How often we are like that! I want to "follow Jesus". That's where all the action is. "Please God, ask me to do the 'big thing' for You". "I'm still waiting for God to tell me what to do!"
How about doing what God has already told us to do?
I've had a lot of young people say to me that they don't know what the Lord is asking them to do. Really, what they were saying is, that they are waiting for God to reveal the BIG PLAN He has got for them. They are waiting for Gabriel or Michael or the Lord Himself to come and personally give the invitation!
Yet how often are the plans of Jesus different from ours! Like Naaman we don't see the point of washing in the muddy Jordan even if it is to heal our leprosy.
"Return home and tell how much God has done for you!" But anyone can do that ... I want to "follow You!"
But isn't that just it? Anyone can do that! We can all do that! We can all "return home and tell how much God has done for us". Why is it that we don't want to do it and furthermore don't do it? And while we are waiting for the BIG ONE, so we can really follow Jesus, our relatives, friends and neighbours go to Hell.
Interestingly in this account, Jesus was hassled out of the region when "legion" was healed. And yet when Jesus returned a little later the whole town came out to meet Him! What had happened to change their minds and attitudes? 'He' had returned home and told them how much God had done for him!
Just maybe - once our street is rejoicing in what God has done for us - Jesus may call us to "follow Him" in other cities too!
