NO DISCIPLINE SEEMS PLEASANT AT THE TIME.
You can say that again!
As someone who has received rather a lot of discipline, by my natural parents, my spiritual parents and too, by the Lord, I feel I know a bit about it!
As a friend of mine says, you either give an ounce of discipline every day to your child as he or she grows up or you give a ton in their teenage years. Sooner or later it has to be given! Discipline is not all about punishment though. We seem to think the two are synonymous but discipline is much broader than that.
Discipline can be experienced in many different ways. In not getting our own way; in being denied our desires immediately or totally; in being challenged by what we think and say and do. Discipline can also take the form of being asked to do things we don't want to do - sometimes even without an adequate explanation or indeed any kind of explanation at all.
Anything that 'rocks our boat', challenges our motives, ambitions and paradigm can be considered discipline. Not only that, discipline can be the process of changing my way to my parents' ways. As children we have to be trained and moulded by our parents.
God disciplines us, as His children, so that we start to think and act as He would. Indeed with God - because He is love and He is good - His ways are best. Whether or not His ways are part of my plans or not - they are best for me. God doesn't desire second best for us. He desires the very best.
If we want His very best, we must be prepared to be disciplined however unpleasant it seems at the time. His ways are not our ways - but He does know best!
We have to change from doing things "My Way" to doing things HIS WAY.
Accept His discipline and go for gold! You will never regret it in the long run!
