Hebrews 13:13
LET US THEN GO TO HIM OUTSIDE THE CAMP
Where is your security - inside the camp or in God? Read again Hebrews 13:11 - 16. Jesus bore our disgrace, our sins, "outside the city gate". He was not only rejected by men, humiliated, flogged and crucified; He was also cursed by God, so that He could bear the curse that is on us from birth. He was crucified "outside the city wall".
As the old hymn says -
"There is a green hill far away, outside a city wall,
Where the Dear Lord was crucified, who died to save us all.
There was none other good enough to pay the price of sin.
He only, could unlock the gate of Heaven, and let us in.
How dearly, dearly has He loved - and we must love Him too
And trust in His redeeming grace and try His works to do."
The city may seem the place of security - Lot certainly thought so but look what happened to him and his wife and family. We always seek out our comfort zone but that is never God's way.
As the poet said, "Iron bars do not a prison make." It's not the bars that make prisons. Most people are prisoners of their emotions and fears, their desires and ambitions, the illusion of riches, image, health and fitness, power or self-centredness. They may all look grand but they are far more effective as a prison than iron bars and stone walls ever were.
Also, we may think that it is "safer" not to talk about our faith and Christianity for fear of rebuttal, shame or attack - BUT THAT CREATES A PRISON TOO! You need to be released to share the joy and life you have found in Christ, which is in Christ alone.
Your security is then found not in "safety" but in Jesus Christ - the Rock of Ages, the High Tower. As Jesus says - "He who wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me will save it."
What greater privilege can there be than to be counted worthy to suffer for the One who gave His all for me? We will never suffer eternally because He has paid the price to save us from doing that. All we can suffer is a fleeting rejection by those who rejected Him.
Come on, my friends - Let us then, go to Him, outside the camp!
