OR MOURNING...
Mourning follows death, as surely as night follows day.
When death has been dealt his final blow, mourning will follow close on his heels.
Mourning is there because we feel death has so often "robbed" us of our nearest and dearest. They leave a vacuum, which cannot be filled no matter how hard we try. Mourning is a very necessary part of grief, for without it grief will stay around even longer.
Mourning is caused through a broken relationship. A relationship with a loved one and the deeper the relationship the deeper the mourning.
Why is it so painful? Because God is a relational God. The apex of relationship is the relationship between the Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Father loves the Son who honours the Father and the Holy Spirit brings glory to the Son. In the Trinity there is perfect harmony.
What mourning there must have been in heaven when Father had to watch His Son die in your place and mine? That broken relationship of perfect harmony, love and life.
Yes, God knows how we feel. The shortest verse in the Bible is "Jesus wept". Yes, He mourned at the death of Lazarus. He knew what a broken relationship meant to us and now He knows what a broken relationship means to the Godhead.
He also mourns when His creatures - you and me - reject Him and His love. He mourns over all those who refuse to enter into a relationship with Him.
But mourning will cease. For us and for God!
The day is coming when our relationships will be restored and the final curtain comes down on rebellion.
From then on, there will be eternal relationships and there will be no more mourning!
