Revelation 21:4
OR PAIN...
What causes pain?
Injury causes pain. Physical accidents. A slip of a knife. A miss hit with a hammer. Even cardboard and paper cuts can cause pain. The car running over your foot - the boat that crushed your leg between the gunnels and the wharf. The brake on the bicycle that came back quickly and squashed your finger. The door slamming shut on your hand. The cricket ball that fell through your cupped hands and landed with full force on your knee. That branch that broke off fell and landed on your head. That fall from a spooked horse.
All those cause pain - and none shall be in heaven!
Sickness causes pain. Toothaches, headaches, back pain, stomachache, peritonitis, ulcers, angina, bone breakages, the list goes on and on - they all cause pain - BUT never again!
Then, there is emotional pain. Caused by others. They let us down; they trample on us; abuse us; gossip about us; slander us; tease us; mislead us and misrepresent us. That shall cease.
Then there is emotional pain caused by us. Our failure to live up to our own expectations. Our failure to constantly tell the truth. Our failure to love, as we ought. Then we shall be perfect.
Then there is that spiritual pain caused by our failure to be the person God intended us to be. Our failure to appropriate for ourselves all the promises of God. The failure to walk by faith. But then, we shall see face to face!
Pain is not of God. For just as perfect love casts out fear, so the God of all comfort designed us to live a perfect life where no harm could ever intrude upon us.
That time will come and there will be no more pain!
