October Topic: Grace |
As it is not until we have a deep appreciation of what GRACE is and means, that we really come into the full liberty in Christ that we have been purchased to experience, let's take this month to explore some of its depths and treasures. |
1 John 4:10
THIS IS LOVE... NOT THAT WE LOVED GOD, BUT THAT HE LOVED US...
Unconditional and God Initiated!
"He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." The Mystery and Glory of Christianity and its uniqueness are shown in the fact that God is looking for us. He chooses us and He gives us the privilege of coming back into relationship with Him. He does it all. I don't go looking for God; so much as He is constantly looking for us to come back into His Kingdom.
What we so often call the parable of the Prodigal son - should really be renamed. The story is not essentially about the son coming back home, but rather about the quality and depth of the father's love. The son treated his father with totally selfish disdain and contempt, but his father's love was so great it exceeded his insults, and brought him back into community relationship.
We need to be reminded of that, too, don't we? Even for those of us who call ourselves Christians. We so easily treat our Heavenly Father with complacency or indifference. And yet, still His love knows no bounds. That truth should not be an excuse for selfishness and sin, but rather when we return to God, we know we can receive and feel His inexhaustible love and forgiveness once more.
Even when we are able to give love to others, we realise it is not from ourselves. It wells up from within us as the Holy Spirit is allowed to let His Presence become evident in each and every situation.
All love flows from the Father's heart - for He is love. As we seek to love God for all He has done for us, for all we perceive Him to be, we become more and more aware that it is indeed a response - a response to love already given.
This is love, not that we love God but that He loves us!
